Stephen Mattick, Architectural Designer

Stephen Mattick is an award-winning designer of exceptional houses who has established a unique reputation for designing buildings in keeping with their location and setting. Designs aim to use local materials and to be respectful of local styles and methods while sacrificing nothing in the way of convenience and comfort.

About us
In 1968 Stephen began to work in construction and design, dismantling and rebuilding a brick and timber-framed manor house in Cambridgeshire.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he established himself with the restoration and conversion of redundant farm buildings as well as the design of new houses using reclaimed materials in East Anglia. During his career he has designed hundreds of buildings.
The guiding principle behind Stephen Mattick's designs is that a building should appear timeless and belong in its setting by virtue of its scale, detailing, construction and use of traditional materials.

Mattick in the press
In the 1980s Stephen Mattick was highly thought of for his barn conversions. Now his houses and commercial projects are found abroad as well as in this country.

He has been actively involved in the Poundbury Architectural Review Committee, at the invitation of HRH the Prince of Wales, whose book, 'A Vision of Britain', includes some of Stephen's designs:

These two houses in Suffolk, designed by Stephen Mattick, show that it is still possible to build really beautifully in the old traditional manner with exquisite brickwork and fine detailing. The great thing is that they are traditional-looking; that they might have been there for a few hundred years; and that they fit snugly, comfortably and reassuringly into the countrysideQuote taken from A VISION OF BRITAIN, by HRH The Prince of Wales, published by A.G.
